We are all mindful of the fact that health and safety go hand in hand, especially so during these COVID-19 times. The demand for health and safety in organisations is stronger than ever before. We must place emphasis on healthcare security for our medical institutions and our dear practitioners.
The security industry like most industries has experienced a number of highs and lows since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic. From clients in the retail and education sectors reducing the need for ever present security to guards being caught in the gripe of this illness, thus creating a shortage in resources.
More to the point, our healthcare system is now left vulnerable. There has been a shift as to where active security guards are needed. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the health sector is operating above maximum capacity. Its need for capacity increases by policy makers and big business is substantial.
In addition, there is an increased need for physical and cyber security. This need dictates an industry shift in the need for security solution organisations.
As a collective in the security industry we must be utilised more efficiently to this extent. This will promote and secure the safety of our medical professionals and patients.
Security is right up there with essential services.
Policy makers have to act with the necessary conviction to fast tract processes, so the need does not get neglected through lengthy purchasing processes. Hospitals for example are now at a stage where crowd control management is needed to ensure that healthcare security is present and medical staff remain focussed.
The phrase below was the flint to this flame, my view is that it is a relevant topic that has to see more light. “Companies are in general reporting increased demand at healthcare…” –Keith Oringer. COVID-19 and the Guarding Industry. [securitymagazine.com, 7th April 2020]
As a key individual within the security sector, I propose that policy makers and big business heed the call to be vigilant and make crucial security provisions within the healthcare sector.
There was a preliminary need for institutional and resource security within the sector. Ultimately, there is a crucial need for healthcare security during the vaccine management and roll out processes.
I encourage oversight and responsibility during these crucial times.
